Globe says Canfor Pulp Products hiked to "outperform"

2014-01-08 06:58 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Jan. 8, edition that in addition to keeping costs in line, Canfor Pulp Products ($10.84) is likely to boost its dividend soon, says RBC Dominion Securities analyst Paul Quinn. The Globe's Darcy Keith and Jody White write in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Quinn boosted his rating on Canfor Pulp to "outperform" from "sector perform." While Mr. Quinn sees short-term downside to pricing due to an expected slowdown in Chinese pulp purchases, and capacity additions in Canada and Russia, he says Canfor is in a good spot to benefit from growing global demand trends for softwood pulp in the medium term to long term. Mr. Quinn says in a note to clients, "We expect Canfor Pulp to raise its quarterly dividend payout from $0.05/sh/qtr to $0.25 in Q214 (implying a dividend yield of about 10 per cent with the stock trading near $10)." Mr. Quinn increased his price target to $13 from $11. The average target price, according to Thomson Reuters, is $12.32. Raymond James analyst Daryl Swetlishoff downgraded Canfor Pulp to "outperform" from "strong buy" in the Eye column on May 3, when it could be had for $8.98. In the item, he targeted the shares at $14.50.
