Canaccord Genuity Corp. and its new employee, Dwight Mann, deny allegations that they have been using confidential client records belonging to National Bank Financial Inc. They say that Mr. Mann, who worked at National Bank until recently, was entitled to keep a list of his clients and their contact information after he left. As they see things, National Bank has no interest in Mr. Mann's client list.
The statements come in response to a lawsuit that National Bank filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against Canaccord and Mr. Mann on May 2, 2018. The suit claims that Mr. Mann, a National Bank employee of 17 years, went to Canaccord after National Bank fired him. He then began soliciting National Bank clients, attempting to transfer his $725-million book of business to Canaccord. In doing so, he used confidential client information, National Bank said.
