National Bank Financial Inc. has filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against a group that defected from its downtown Vancouver branch, claiming that the group took confidential information and defamed the firm. National Bank says that it has lost clients as a result. The suit seeks appropriate damages and a court order that would bar the defectors from using National Bank's data.
The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that National Bank filed on May 2, 2018, at the Vancouver courthouse. The suit mostly targets Dwight Cameron Mann, a 17-year employee who managed a group within National Bank. Also a defendant is Mr. Mann's new employer, Canaccord Genuity Corp., and two other National Bank employees who resigned after Mr. Mann's firing.
