FP/wire say Cameco cuts revenue forecast

2014-10-30 09:30 ET - In the News

The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, Oct. 30, edition that Cameco ($18.92) cut its full-year revenue forecast as its trading unit sold less than expected amid a slump in demand from Japan. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that Cameco said Wednesday in its third quarter earnings statement that it expects 2014 sales to decline by as much as 5 per cent. Its previous outlook was for an increase of 5 per cent to 10 per cent. The company is among uranium miners and traders grappling with plentiful global supplies and weak demand, partly a reflection of a slower-than-expected resumption of nuclear-power production in Japan following the March, 2011, earthquake and tsunami that crippled Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima station. Cameco chief executive officer Tim Gitzel says, "While Japan is edging ever closer to restarting some reactors, it's clear that the restart approval process will continue to be challenging." Cameco reported a third quarter adjusted per share profit of 23 cents. Expectations were for a share profit of 21 cents. The Post reported Bank of Nova Scotia analyst Ben Isaacson's "sector outperform" rating on May 22. Cameco shares were then going for $21.02.
