The Investment Reporter, in its Jan. 29, 2016, issue, says sell Ballard Power Systems Inc., recently $1.84, if you have it. The Reporter said buy on May 21, 1996, at $35.35, and again on June 6, 1997, at $41 (the stock split 3 for 1 on June 3, 1998). The Reporter then said sell on Dec. 30, 1998, at $42. Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the two buys, selling the $2,000 position would have yielded a profit of $4,522. The fuel cell manufacturer is expected to lose 15 cents a share, better than last year's loss of 26 cents a share. The Reporter has provided no other comments on Ballard, except sell if you still hold the stock. Elsewhere in the newsletter, the editor provides tips on seeking a good investment adviser. Committed advisers should warn against complacency and address individual differences. They should also recognize that they are bound to be wrong at times. Professional advisers should provide factual information to you, rather than opinionated recommendations. Lastly, don't settle for a smooth talker looking to make a quick buck; an adviser should be able to offer you good reason for you to value his or her judgment.
