Inv Reporter says hold BlackBerry

2015-10-09 21:19 ET - In the News

The Investment Reporter, in its Oct. 2, 2015, issue, says keep holding BlackBerry Ltd., recently $9.92. The Reporter said buy six times from Aug. 11, 2006, to Feb. 3, 2012, at prices ranging from $15.47 to $148 (the stock split 3 for 1 on Aug. 15, 2007). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the six buys, the $6,000 position would now be worth $1,517. BlackBerry has been losing money since 2012. This year, the mobile phone maker is expected to lose 34 U.S. cents a share. It is expected to lose seven U.S. cents a share in 2016. One plus, however, is that BlackBerry continues to generate positive cash flow, which helps pay the bills. The company's shares trade at an attractively low price-to-cash-flow ratio of five. Another plus is that BlackBerry's cash and short-term investments of $2.96-billion (U.S.) exceed total debt of $1.55-billion (U.S.). A third plus is that BlackBerry is in "capable hands" with CEO John Chen, chairman Barbara Stymiest and major shareholder Prem Watsa. As well, BlackBerry has made some "promising" acquisitions recently. The stock continues to be a hold for a share price recovery, but only if you need no dividends.
