Inv Reporter refreshes AutoCanada buy

2016-02-08 21:16 ET - In the News

The Investment Reporter, in its Jan. 29, 2016, issue, refreshes its buy of AutoCanada Corp., recently $21.96. The Reporter said buy four times from May 10, 2013, to Sept. 4, 2015, at prices ranging from $22.60 to $54.31. Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the four buys, the $4,000 position would now be worth $2,745. In the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2015, the vehicle franchise operator earned $30.2-million, or $1.23 a share, down from $53.9-million, or $1.71 a share, in the same period a year earlier, reflecting weak sales in Alberta. In the year ended Dec. 31, 2015, AutoCanada is thought to have earned $1.67 a share. In 2016, the company's earnings are expected to recover to $2.15 a share, giving a low forward P/E ratio of 10.2. The company carries a high debt-to-cash-flow ratio of 11.9, but it has raised $75-million in an equity issue, which it will use to repay debt. On the bright side, AutoCanada is well diversified across Canada, as well as various car brands and business segments. Management owns 28.9 per cent of AutoCanada, making its interests similar to yours. Its $1 annual dividend is a 4.6-per-cent yield. The stock remains a buy for attractive dividends and long-term gains.
