George Georgiou, the former Toronto broker serving a 25-year sentence for fraud in the United States, has lost his latest attempt at winning his freedom. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has turned down his petition for a rehearing. Mr. Georgiou had complained, not for the first time, that prosecutors failed to properly disclose addiction and mental health issues with a witness who testified about helping Mr. Georgiou manipulate a stock to $6, among other things. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.)

The rejection is contained in a one-sentence order the court issued on Wednesday, Feb. 25. It states that Mr. Georgiou's request for a rehearing or for a hearing before the entire panel of judges that forms the court is denied. With the order, it appears that Mr. Georgiou's only remaining hope for an appeal would be to the Supreme Court of the United States.
