Michael Mitton, a Vancouver con man once described by a judge as a consummate liar and fraudster, is again facing criminal charges. Authorities in Ontario have charged him with one count of trading without registration and one count of trading while prohibited. The charges follow an investigation by the Ontario Securities Commission.
The OSC has released few details of the allegations, but if proven they will build on Mr. Mitton's already substantial list of 105 criminal convictions. Among other things, he victimized several brokerages and a charity of $2.4-million in the Clay-Tech Industries Inc. scam of 1996. He was also cited for the manipulation of H&R Enterprises Inc., in which he and others made $1.8-million while manipulating the stock to $6.75 from $2.
