New York spot gold gained $7.70 to $1,217.70 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 7.49 points to 805.08 while the TSX Gold Index rose 5.18 points to 216.81. Canadian gold miners were strong today. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) gained 20 cents to $6.15 on 5.62 million shares, while Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) rose $1.64 to $62.49 on 763,000 shares.
Mario Stifano's Cordoba Minerals Corp. (CDB) gained 36 cents to $1.29 on 1.94 million shares. The company has received assays of up to 4,440 grams of gold and 347 grams of silver per tonne, accompanied by 10.25 per cent copper and 24.7 per cent zinc, over 0.9 metres from a hole drilled in the Alacran zone on the San Matias project in Colombia. (Robert Friedland's High Power Exploration Inc. has earned a 51-per-cent interest in the project and it can add a further 14 per cent by completing a feasibility study.) The bonanza grade occurred within a 136-metre interval that assayed 0.56 gram of gold and 10.93 grams of silver per tonne, capped, and 1 per cent copper.
