New York spot gold gained $3.80 to $1,208.30 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 4.45 points to 797.59 while the TSX Gold Index rose 2.65 points to 211.63. Canadian gold miners were higher today. Endeavour Mining Corp. (EDV) led that way, gaining 49 cents to $23.88 on 294,000 shares, while Centerra Gold Inc. (CH) was a laggard. It lost eight cents to $6.60 on 3.18 million shares.

Robert Giustra's Columbus Gold Corp. (CGT), down one cent to 87 cents on 899,000 shares, is acquiring the Castle gold project, immediately south of its Eastside project in Nevada. Columbus has agreed to issue 1.5 million shares to the vendor, Seabridge Gold Inc. (SEA: $12.75), and another 250,000 shares to Platoro West, the underlying lessor of the project. Platoro is due to receive $25,000 (U.S.) annually over the 99-year lease. Mr. Giustra, chairman and chief executive officer, called the acquisition "very strategic," adding that the company planned a resource update that would add Castle's "good-grade, oxide, near-surface gold ounces" to the existing Eastside resource.
