New York spot gold gained $1.40, closing at $1,268.10 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.20 point to 775.19 while the TSX Gold Index lost 3.14 points to 216.91. Most Canadian gold miners retreated again today, although Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) was strong, gaining 69 cents to $65.11 on 968,000 shares. Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) led the retreat. It lost 69 cents to $10.54 on 1.44 million shares.
Lewis Lawrick and Dustin Angelo's Anaconda Mining Inc. (ANX), unchanged at seven cents on 690,000 shares, has received assays of up to 3.81 grams per tonne over 3.0 metres from its 19-hole drill program on its Point Rousse project in Newfoundland. The drilling took place near the Stog'er Tight deposit and about 3.5 kilometres from the company's Pine Cove mill, testing targets along a zone 850 metres long and 300 metres wide. Eleven of the holes yielded gold hits worth mentioning, although the grades in seven of them were less than 1.5 grams per tonne.
