New York spot gold fell $6.80 to $1,315.30 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 3.63 points to 766.34 while the TSX Gold Index fell 7.78 points to 253.84. Canadian gold miners lost ground today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) fell hard, losing $2.88 to $67.78 on 839,000 shares, while Eldorado Gold Corp. (EDG) slid 34 cents to $5.34 on 6.45 million shares.
Mark Campbell's Aton Resources Inc. (AAN), unchanged at 5.5 cents on 346,000 shares, has resumed drilling at its Hamama gold project in eastern Egypt. The 3,500 metre program was about 800 metres short of its target when Aton took a break for Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of daytime fasting, and Eid El Fitar, the one-day feast that ends the fast. Aton's 32 holes, completed to depths between 40 and 220 metres and averaging about 110 metres, are testing the near-surface oxide mineralization, the transition zone to sulphide rock and the primary sulphides at depth.
