New York spot gold lost $16.40 to $1,315.30 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange slid 13.86 points to 754.76 while the TSX Gold Index lost 15.61 points to 251.90. Most Canadian gold miners took a hit today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) slumped $4.36 to $68.22 on 1.08 million shares while Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI) dropped 98 cents to $10.39 on 1.37 million shares.

John McConnell's Victoria Gold Corp. (VIT), down five cents to 70 cents on 2.30 million shares, has received assays of up to 2.09 grams of gold over 39.7 metres from the Shamrock zone at its Dublin Gulch project in Yukon. Earlier this summer the company hit a zone averaging 2.1 grams per tonne over 38.1 metres. Mr. McConnell, president and chief executive officer, called the results "extremely encouraging," adding that the new assays confirm additional exploration upside near the company's Eagle deposit. The big 2016 program was designed to expand the Olive-Shamrock zone along strike and across its controlling structure. The latest drilling has focused on a 500-metre portion of the 1.5-kilometre strike length.
