New York spot gold jumped $26.00 to $1,292.40 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 9.73 points to 674.87 while the TSX Gold Index gained 14.54 points to 228.67. Canadian gold stocks had another strong day. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) jumped $4.93 to $59.31 on 2.60 million shares, while Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) added $2.26 to $24.29 on 12.90 million shares. The laggard was Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD), but even it added 19 cents to $5.29 on 9.16 million shares.

Peter Gianulis and Robert Giustra's Columbus Gold Corp. (CGT), up two cents to 55 cents on 280,000 shares, has received assays of up to 4.1 grams of gold per tonne over 35.1 metres at its Eastside gold project in Nevada. Four other holes also yielded noteworthy assays. The results are from the first 10 holes completed so far in the company's big 2016 drill program. Mr. Giustra, chairman and chief executive officer, says assays are pending on "many samples," as the company has already completed 1,800 metres of core drilling and 4,850 metres of rotary drilling in the continuing program.
