New York spot gold gained $5.40 to $1,243.30 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 5.53 points to 657.44 while the TSX Gold Index gained 2.89 points to 203.71. Canadian gold stocks moved higher today, led by Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI), which gained 43 cents to $8.46 on 1.74 million shares and Goldcorp Inc. (G), which added 70 cents to $22.18 on 4.22 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) was a noteworthy exception. It lost 78 cents to $22.94 on 2.99 million shares.
Robert Quartermain's Pretium Resources Inc. (PVG), up 22 cents to $9.22 on 610,000 shares, has received assays of up to 59.13 grams of gold per tonne over 38.04 metres in the Valley of the Kings area at its Brucejack gold project in Northern British Columbia. Several other holes yielded promotably high grades over significant intervals. The assays are the latest in a series of infill tests in an area that Pretium expects to mine during the first three years of operations at Brucejack. Valley of the Kings currently hosts a reserve of 13.6 million tonnes at 15.7 grams per tonne, a total of nearly seven million ounces.
