New York spot gold gained $18.10 to $1,173.50 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 3.67 points to 508.15 while the TSX Gold Index gained 8.83 points to 164.87. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) led the charge yet again, gaining another $1.55 to $46.55 on 1.43 million shares.

Jim Sinclair and Joseph Kahama's Tanzanian Royalty Exploration Corp. (TNX) slumped 11 cents to 29 cents on 1.04 million shares after it invoked a force majeure clause in its agreement with Stamico, a mining company owned by the Tanzanian government. Mr. Sinclair, president and chief executive officer, says the action was needed because of the "invasion and forced occupation" of the South pit and other key parts of its Buckreef project, which the company hopes to place into production. He says that the illegal miners are endangering the company's workers and preventing them from doing their jobs, adding that the invasions are "continuing by stealth and at night." (It is unclear how an attack can be both stealthy and regular, but Mr. Sinclair does have other things to think about.)
