New York spot gold closed up $5.40 to $1,139.80 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange slumped 11 points to 547 while the TSX Gold Index dropped 2.83 points to 125.61. Most gold miners in Canada lost ground today. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) dropped 26 cents to $8.89 on 6.56 million shares and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) slipped 31 cents to $31.91 on 2.27 million shares. A few miners were ahead earlier on but only Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) remained ahead at the close, gaining three cents to $13.32 on 1.81 million shares.
Stephen de Jong's Integra Gold Corp. (ICG), unchanged at 27 cents on 773,000 shares, has received assays of 13.9 grams of gold per tonne over six metres at its Triangle target at Lamaque South, near Val d'Or. The company has already completed over 52,000 metres of drilling and the program is continuing. The drilling at Triangle "consistently exceeds our expectations," says Mr. de Jong, a long-time stock promoter who is well aware it is easy to exceed expectations when one starts with low expectations. A revised resource estimate is planned for early fall and Mr. de Jong, president and CEO, is already planning more drilling next year.
