Robert Giustra's halted gold-silver explorer, Columbus Exploration Corp. (CLX), last at 19 cents, is going to become an organic food producer in Guatemala. The company has arranged to acquire a private Guatemalan company, Agricola Nuova Terra, for $9.8-million, mostly in shares. Agricola is building a test greenhouse in South America, where it already owns a processing plant capable of handling up to 20 million pounds of produce a year. Guatemala is known for its bananas, papaya, pineapple, broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus. Columbus hopes to start building multiple greenhouses shortly, and then sell its organic produce to the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. To help oversee this new direction, Mr. Giustra has hired Peter Gianulis as president. He apparently has 20 years of "natural products" experience. He acquired his first 1.2 million Columbus Exploration shares at five cents.
