New York spot gold closed up $4.40 to $1,170.10 Monday, rising slightly after the Greeks voted against more austerity measures. The country will meet with Eurozone leaders once again tomorrow. Here in Canada, the TSX Venture Exchange fell 7.25 points to 663.33, while the TSX Gold Index rose 2.80 points to 154.66.

Canadian gold miners ended the day higher. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) added 34 cents to $13.73, Goldcorp Inc. (G) gained 55 cents to $21.13, Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) gained 43 cents to $14.80 and Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) edged up two cents to $5.24.

Glenn Mullan and Ian Ball's Abitibi Royalties Inc. (RZZ) rose one cent to $3 on 1,000 shares. The company has acquired its second royalty: a 2-per-cent NSR on 280 hectares of land east of Metanor Gold Inc.'s (MTO: $0.055) Bachelor gold mine in Quebec. In exchange, Abitibi must pay $6,500 in maintenance fees due in 2017. It will also pay owner Ivars Azis $6,500 for 15 per cent of any proceeds should he sell the property. Mr. Azis says he is looking for a joint venturer to help his private company, Tamarack Gold Resources Inc., explore. It owns 1,120 hectares of land near the Bachelor mine, from which Metanor produces around 10,000 ounces of gold a quarter. Before starting Tamarack in 2012, Mr. Azis spent two decades running Glenview Homes Ltd., a residential homebuilder in Toronto.
