New York spot gold lost $3.80 to $1,198.30 Monday, as jewellers in the United States prepared for Black Friday sales. Physical bullion demand is up this year thanks to lower gold prices. In Canada, the TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.56 points to 787.50 and the TSX Gold Index lost 1.62 points to 151.79.

Major Canadian gold miners ended some up slightly, others down. Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) added two cents to $4.59, Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) rose 11 cents to $7.22, Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) lost 22 cents to $14.22 and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) dropped 66 cents to $29.29.

Michel Bouchard's Clifton Star Resources Inc. (CFO) lost 2.5 cents to 6.5 cents on 193,000 shares. The company has six more days to come up with $10-million, or lose its option to acquire 90 per cent of the Duparquet project in Quebec. It just lost a legal petition to suspend the option payment, pending litigation with a former property owner. The company said the suit, filed in June, complicated its "quest for new financing." Clifton Star owns only 10 per cent of the project, and all efforts to renegotiate its option payments over the past year have failed. The petition was a last-ditch effort to postpone the looming payment.
