The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a weak 67-86-131. The TSX Venture Exchange rose one point to 787 while polished diamond prices were flat. Frank Smeenk's Debut Diamonds Inc. (DDI), which has been unable to fog a mirror for years, has inched to the upper end of its gradual oscillation around the one-cent mark, adding one-half cent to 1.5 cents on 20,000 shares. The company has an intriguing diamond prospects in the Attawapiskat region of Northern Ontario, but it reeks of mothballs.
Paul Brockington's Margaret Lake Diamonds Inc.(DIA), up one-half cent to 13.5 cents on 77,000 shares, is drilling its Margaret Lake diamond project, near Gahcho Kue in the Northwest Territories. The company plans to test six targets that it previously delineated on the property using gravity and geophysical surveys over the past few years. Mr. Brockington, president and chief executive officer, has been promising drill programs yearly as a rite of spring, but this is the first year that the company has gotten beyond wishful thinking.
