The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a ho-hum 55-53-159. The TSX Venture Exchange fell three points to 785 while polished diamond prices fell 0.3 per cent. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY) gained four cents to $1.17 on 3.42 million shares after the company held its opening ceremony for its Renard diamond mine in Northern Quebec. The opening follows the July declaration of continuous production at Renard, but full production is still to come.
Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) lost 11 cents to $11.75 on 429,000 shares on word that its 40-per-cent-owned Diavik diamond mine at Lac de Gras had a solid, if unspectacular summer quarter. The mine produced 1.54 million carats from 580,000 tonnes of kimberlite, an average of 2.66 carats per tonne. The haul is significantly less than the 2.18 million carats that the mine produced in the spring of 2015, but only three of the past eight quarters achieved a higher diamond yield than the latest quarter.
