The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a ho-hum 57-70-141. The TSX Venture Exchange lost two points to 810 while polished diamond prices fell 0.3 per cent. Patrick Power's Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD) closed unchanged at 2.5 cents on 1.16 million shares. The company has been quiet about its diamond projects this year, never a good sign, and its stock is well off its spring high of 10 cents.
Ken MacNeill and George Read's Shore Gold Inc. (SGF), unchanged at 20 cents on 649,000 shares, has sold five million shares at 20 cents, raising $1-million for "general working capital purposes." The company administrative burn rate is high enough to consume, before the year is out, the $1.3-million in working capital that Shore had at the end of June. In mid-July, Mr. Read, Shore's executive vice-president, said that Shore had no immediate plans for a placement, although he added that it might need cash later in the year to complete a planned update of its feasibility study of the Star-Orion South project in central Saskatchewan.
