The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a 37-37-161 draw. The TSX Venture Exchange gained five points to 500 while polished diamond prices fell 0.1 per cent. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY) gained two cents to 73 cents on 511,000 shares. Stornoway is quietly building its $860-million diamond mine at Renard, in Northern Quebec. Mark Smith's Niocorp Developments Ltd. (NB) gained one cent to 76 cents on 862,000 shares.
Robert Gannicott's Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) gained 36 cents to $14.70 on 288,000 shares. The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board (MVEIRB) has recommended that the Canadian government approve the company's plan to develop its huge Jay pipe, which lies in shallow water within Lac du Sauvage at the northeastern end of Lac de Gras. Brendan Bell, chief executive officer, thanked the MVEIRB for its work, adding he was looking forward to a timely decision by the minister. He also thanked the various communities that participated in the process for their active interest.
