The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a mediocre 43-45-150. The TSX Venture Exchange gained four points to 547 while polished diamond prices edged upward. Hope springs eternal with Ken MacNeill and George Read's Shore Gold Inc. (SGF). The stock slumped to 12.5 cents on Monday following some bad press. Today it gained 1.5 cents to 16.5 cents on 333,000 shares, its highest since mid-August. Jay Chmelauskas's Western Lithium USA Corp. (WLC) gained one-half cent to 27.5 cents on 1.62 million shares. The company is working lithium projects in Nevada and Argentina.

Robert Coltura's Golden Peak Minerals Inc. (GP), unchanged at five cents on 5,000 shares, is set to emerge as a new diamond promotion. Mr. Coltura, president and chief executive officer, says the company is acquiring a 100-per-cent interest in the 1,024-hectare Oyster property near Gillam in Northern Manitoba from Bill Ferreira's W.S. Ferreira Ltd. for one million shares. Veteran diamond investors, at least those with a memory for detail, may recall that the Manitoba-based Mr. Ferreira, a long-time prospector, sold claims as diamond projects years ago. In 2005 he sold a property in the Hayes River region of northeastern Manitoba to Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD: $0.02) and Geodex Minerals Ltd. (GXM: $0.01). Ten years before that he sold a property near Lake Dauphin to Agate Bay Resources Ltd.
