The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a negative 49-61-140. The TSX Venture Exchange fell fractionally to 680 while polished diamond prices lost the 1 per cent they gained Monday. Patrick Evans's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPV) gained 15 cents to $4.78 on 380,000 shares. The company has closed its $95-million rights offering as expected. It closed oversubscribed so Dermot Desmond, the company's major shareholder, did not have to exercise any additional rights. (He had previously pledged to ensure the full $95-million would be raised.) Cristiano Melcher's MBAC Fertilizer Corp. (MBC) fell 1.5 cents to two cents on 18.90 million shares. The financially troubled company will be filing its annual financials late, so it has applied for a management cease trade order. The company's Itafos phosphate mine in Brazil reached production earlier this year -- a most unfortunate time as fertilizer sales are slow in South America at this time of year. Meanwhile, the company's creditors are champing at the bit to get paid.
