The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a cheery 58-49-144. The TSX Venture Exchange lost one point to 696 while polished diamond prices gained 0.1 per cent. Chuck Fipke's Metalex Ventures Ltd. (MTX) gained one-half cent to 4.5 cents on 146,000 shares. Metalex has not had exploration news since summer, and that news was bad. Metalex had been promising a bulk sample of its U2 pipe in Northern Ontario for years. It was to be bankrolled by Dundee Corp. (DC.A: $12.02), which could earn a 51-per-cent interest for $51-million. Metalex said Dundee got tired of waiting for the Ontario government to issue permits and it quit the deal as a result. Spiro Kletas's Big North Graphite Corp. (NRT) gained one-half cent to two cents on 1.45 million shares. Big North is trying to raise $250,000 at two cents to pay for its El Tejon graphite project in Mexico, where it hopes to resurrect an old mine.
