Vancouver restaurant owner Duane McGaw has filed a defamation lawsuit in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against David Marchant, the Florida resident who runs the Offshore Alert website. Mr. McGaw complains about an article that called him a Canadian con man and identified him as the perpetrator of an investment fraud that totalled 98 million pounds. He says the article is false and malicious, and will seriously harm his business prospects.

The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that Mr. McGaw, 44, filed at the Vancouver courthouse on Aug. 13, 2015. The subject of his lawsuit is an article that appeared in Offshore Alert, Mr. Marchant's subscription-based blog that frequently targets securities violators. The article, dated July 14, 2015, claimed that Mr. McGaw committed some sort of fraud in connection with an entity called the Argentum Group.
