Vancouver lawyer John Briner has put himself in even deeper trouble with Illinois Judge Milton Shadur, who is hearing a futures trading case against him. In an order entered Monday, July 27, the judge has complained about "continued court-contemptuous conduct" on Mr. Briner's part in trying to have a default decision overturned. Mr. Briner has once again ignored the rules of the court despite a prior admonishment from the judge that his actions were "really appalling," the order states.
The judicial dressing down comes as part of a case the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is pursuing against Mr. Briner. The regulator cited him for participating in 1,284 matched trades on OneChicago, a single stock futures exchange. He and a California man executed a series of transactions designed to illegally pass $390,000 from accounts Mr. Briner controlled, the CFTC said. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.)
