B.C. Securities Commission target Erwin Speckert has been criminally charged after he was found carrying $1.3-million in a backpack at a Greyhound terminal in Winnipeg. Police say that they received a call to attend the terminal in February, 2012, where they discovered Mr. Speckert carrying the money in $100 bills. He was at the terminal for a stopover on his way to Vancouver.

Mr. Speckert was released with no charges at the time, but on Feb. 26, 2013, prosecutors in Winnipeg charged him with possession of proceeds of crime, trafficking in proceeds of crime, possession for the purpose of trafficking in proceeds of crime and laundering of proceeds of crime. He turned himself in to police on Friday, March 25, and after a court appearance was released. The appearance was subject to a publication ban. Several Winnipeg media outlets reported his arrest on Monday, with the Winnipeg Free Press saying that the money was allegedly the proceeds of illegal gaming in Ontario.

I am impressed. Foisting $1.3 in hundreds on your back has decent weight. ;-)

A well dress guy like that on the greyhound with a back pack clutched to his bosum like a newborn baby...hahahaha Cops probably thought they were going to find bricks of cocaine. Not a great smuggler.

I'd like to know who made the call to tip the Police off that he was carrying so much cash. And why get on a bus anyway? Ever heard of a rental car and take a non-direct route to your destination? Or was the bus an attempt to try and avoid being robbed alone by himself?

The Swiss connection intrigues me. Would be fascinating to follow the trail.

Nobody ratted the guy out...He tried to re-board the bus and was searched as a security measure wherein he copped that he had the loot. How tough is it to rent a car and drive across the country?
