WELLSTAR ENERGY ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL RECOMPLETION IN SOUTHEASTERN SASKATCHEWAN
After four days of testing, Wellstar Energy Corp. has achieved production results of approximately 60 barrels of oil per day of light sweet crude from the Winnipeg Sand recompletion program at its McTaggart property in southeastern Saskatchewan.
Wellstar proceeded with the recompletion of the Winnipeg Sand formation by fracture stimulating a portion of the original formation, which was completed in the spring of 2000. The well originally produced over 70,000 stock tank barrels until it was suspended in mid-2006 in order to recomplete the wellbore in the up-hole Red River formation. The company is the operator and owns a 100-per-cent working interest (BPO) in this well.
Wellstar president and chief executive officer Andrew Rees stated: "We are very pleased with the results from this work program as it more than doubles the company's net production rate. Management will now look at opportunities to optimize recovery from the Winnipeg Sand pool, which could include drilling a horizontal well."
