WESTJET APPLAUDS MINISTER GARNEAU'S CRACK DOWN ON RECREATIONAL DRONES
WestJet Airlines Ltd. is thanking the federal Transport Minister, Marc Garneau, for adopting tighter regulations around the use of drones for recreational purposes.
"The safety of the flying public is paramount for everyone involved in commercial aviation," said Cam Kenyon, WestJet executive vice-president, operations. "We are pleased that Minister Garneau has taken this step to immediately ensure the safety of our guests, crew and aircraft with the implementation of new rules around drones. We look forward to the rules becoming permanent law in the near future."
Effective immediately, recreational users will face fines if drones weighing more than 250 grams are caught flying within nine kilometres of anywhere aircraft take off or land.
