The Vancouver Sun reports in its Saturday edition West Fraser Timber is buying the Bibler Brothers sawmill and lumber operations in Arkansas.
The unbylined item says the Bibler operation is about 130 kilometres from a sawmill that the Vancouver company recently acquired in Mansfield, Ark., and will be the fourth West Fraser operation in that state.
The Arkansas acquisitions are part of West Fraser's plans to expand in the U.S. South. It is also expanding in its Western Canadian base.
Financial details of the Bibler deal were not released.
West Fraser says the Bibler Brothers sawmill produced about 136 million board feet of lumber last year. West Fraser has also closed its purchase of the Buchanan Lumber sawmill in Alberta and plans to expand its annual capacity to about 175 million board feet from about 110 million.
West Fraser closed Friday at $50.76, down 60 cents on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
