NexGen Energy Ltd. denies that it did anything wrong when it hired Alpha Exploration Inc.'s vice-president of exploration, Garrett Ainsworth, earlier this year. Alpha's chief executive officer, who is also Mr. Ainsworth's father, knew about the hiring well in advance, according to NexGen. The employment also came before the two companies entered a confidentiality agreement that prevented any cross-hiring, NexGen says.
NexGen is responding to a lawsuit that Alpha filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on June 23, 2014 against both NexGen and Mr. Ainsworth. The suit complained that NexGen's hiring of Mr. Ainsworth came as the two companies were discussing a proposed merger. As part of the negotiations, the companies had entered a confidentiality agreement that prevented either company from hiring an employee of the other for two years. The job offer from NexGen violated that agreement, according to the suit.
