The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau touted "significant" progress on the North American free-trade agreement talks Thursday. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that Mr. Trump said: "We're working very hard on NAFTA with Mexico and Canada. We'll have something, I think, fairly soon." Mr. Trump added: "There's no rush. We'll get it done right or we'll terminate it." Mr. Trudeau said earlier Thursday that trade talks have picked up momentum. He said, "We are in a moment where we are moving forward in a significant way, hopefully there will be some good news coming." Mr. Trump played down expectations the announcement will come next week at a regional summit in Peru. Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland is scheduled to meet Friday in Washington with U.S. trade czar Robert Lighthizer and Mexican Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo, signalling that talks have bumped up to the ministerial level as the negotiations intensify. Canadian officials believe the best chance for reaching a quick agreement in principle will occur next week in Peru at this year's Summit of the Americas. Unnamed sources say the U.S. has softened a key demand on autos.
