The Financial Post reports in its Friday, May 6, edition that chief executive officer Don Walker says Magna International is in a good position to manufacture vehicles for new industry players. The Post's Kristine Owram writes that Mr. Walker is mum on reports that Magna is in advanced talks with Apple about building an electric car for the technology giant. Mr. Walker says, "We never comment on people we've been talking to." However, he says new industry entrants are a "mega trend" that Magna is watching. Mr. Walker says: "I think people always overestimate how quickly a new player that doesn't make a vehicle can actually come to market with a vehicle, but I'm sure there will be some new entrants at some point in time. And because we have the capability of full vehicle manufacturing and engineering ... if somebody new comes into the market, they would certainly be talking to us." German publication Handelsblatt reported last month that both BMW and Daimler have ended talks with Apple and Magna is now considered to be the top rival for the contract. Besides supplying parts to major automakers around the world, Magna also produces vehicles for customers at its Magna Steyr plant in Austria.
