LED MEDICAL DIAGNOSTICS ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF VELSCOPEA VX ENHANCED ORAL ASSESSMENT SYSTEM IN CHINA

LED Medical Diagnostics Inc. has made its VELscope Vx enhanced oral assessment system available in China, marking the expansion of its technology to a key emerging market in one of the world's largest economies. The official launch of the VELscope Vx in China took place in Shanghai in late October during DenTech China, the leading professional exhibition and symposium event for dental technology in Asia. The VELscope is now available in China exclusively through Prospect Dentech, a subsidiary of Sinopharm and the largest stomatological medicine and equipment distributor in China. The initial stocking order of VELscope systems has now been delivered, with fulfilment of local sales beginning in the coming days.

"Oral squamous cell cancers, the most common type of oral cancers, are more prevalent in south-central Asia than in some other geographical regions," remarked Wayne Rees, vice-president of VELscope imaging for LED Dental. "As in other world regions, dental practitioners and other health care workers in China bear the front line responsibility for screening and the early detection of oral cancers to help improve the survival rate and treatment outcomes."

With over 4,000 hospitals and a rapid growth of private dental clinics, China is uniquely suited for adoption of VELscope technology. Prospect Dentech has initiated an aggressive marketing strategy, leveraging their existing distribution and key opinion leader network to educate Chinese clinicians on the proper use of the VELscope's tissue fluorescence visualization technology during oral examinations. LED Dental continues to provide sales and training support, recently localizing all VELscope marketing materials and its Apple iPod imaging application into Mandarin.

The VELscope Vx enhanced oral assessment system is the leading adjunctive screening device around the world, utilized by dentists and health care providers as an adjunct to the traditional comprehensive oral examination. The VELscope Vx's tissue fluorescence technology enhances the visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities that many not be apparent or visible to the naked eye, such as oral cancer and premalignant dysplasia. The VELscope Vx is also intended to be used by surgeons to aid in the identification of diseased tissue around a clinically apparent lesion, thus assisting in the determination of the appropriate margin for surgical excision.
