Harfang acquires 40 additional claims at Serpent

2018-12-10 09:06 ET - News Release

Mr. Francois Goulet reports

HARFANG SAMPLES GOLD-BEARING TILLS, INCREASES LAND POSITION AT ITS SERPENT PROPERTY (JAMES BAY, QUEBEC)

Many till samples collected during Harfang Exploration Inc.'s fall 2018 survey in the Mista showing area (Serpent property) contain anomalous amounts of gold grains. The new exploration targets generated north (or up ice) of the till survey led to the acquisition of 40 claims by map designation north of Mista.

A total of 27 samples were collected at an approximate spacing of 500 metres in this till survey, covering a 2.6-kilometre-by-2.2-kilometre area. The main objective of the survey was to test the geochemical signature of the Mista zone in the Quaternary deposits and to identify potential mineralized corridors in the western extension of the showing. Till results clearly demonstrate that the quantity of gold grains (including pristine grains) is more significant in the northwestern and southwestern portions of the survey. The gold-bearing samples (up to 11 gold grains in total) in the northwest contain scheelite (up to 30 grains), whereas those in the southwest (up to 17 gold grains in total) contain loellingite (up to seven grains), thus suggesting two distinct sources. Both scheelite and loellingite are indicator minerals for gold deposits. Calculated concentrations of visible gold in heavy mineral concentrates range between 0.1 gram per tonne and 249.2 grams per tonne gold for eight samples. This very high calculated grade is caused by a coarse gold grain reaching 1.43 millimetres by 0.55 millimetre by 0.50 millimetre. The current interpretation, based on a southwest-directed glacial dispersal train, suggests two potential sources for the auriferous tills. One would be linked to the loellingite, while the other is associated with the scheelite. No exploration work has ever been done in the source region of the scheelite grains.

In light of these positive results obtained from the fall till survey, Harfang Exploration will proceed with additional similar surveys. First, the extent of the fall survey will be increased and completed with infill samples in order to delineate the sources of auriferous tills. Second, other areas of interest (the Langelier showing) will need to be covered with a similar survey.

Highly motivated by copper-gold-silver mineralization and gold-bearing tills at Mista, Harfang Exploration is planning a geophysical survey in this part of the Serpent property. Future fieldwork will also include prospecting and geological mapping. The recent claim addition between the Langelier and Mista showings gives Harfang Exploration the exclusive rights for exploration work on this outcropping land, which has never been explored.

About the Serpent property

The Serpent property, which is wholly owned by Harfang Exploration and without net smelter return royalties, now contains 295 claims covering 15,267 hectares. The property is located 80 kilometres south-southeast of the Radisson locality and only 10 kilometres east of the James Bay Road. Lithologies are dominantly associated to the Langelier complex, which includes foliated and gneissic tonalite and diorite interpreted as the Archean crustal basement onto which was deposited a volcano-sedimentary assemblage partially preserved on the property.

Two significant mineralized zones were discovered during recent exploration campaigns, namely the Langelier showing (91.48 grams per tonne gold over 0.45 metre (channel)) and the Mista showing (1.12 per cent copper, 0.23 gram per tonne gold and 8.68 grams per tonne silver over 10 metres, including 2.09 per cent copper, 0.45 gram per tonne gold and 16.4 grams per tonne silver over four metres (channel)).

Quality control

Till samples were collected by the Harfang Exploration team and sent to Overburden Drilling Management (Nepean, Ont.). This laboratory proceeded with the grain count, with the identification of some indicator minerals, and with the determination of gold grain shape from the non-magnetic heavy mineral concentrates. Quantities of grains mentioned in the text are not normalized to 10 kilograms since all samples submitted to Overburden Drilling Management had very similar weights between 12.2 kilograms and 14.5 kilograms.
