Gatekeeper launches SP25 dual-camera technology

2018-10-30 10:01 ET - News Release

Mr. Douglas Dyment reports

GATEKEEPER LAUNCHES NEW SCHOOL BUS VISION TECHNOLOGY TO PROTECT KIDS FROM STOP-ARM VIOLATORS

Gatekeeper Systems Inc. has unveiled its new SP25 10-megapixel dual-camera system featuring crystal clear image quality and superior range, which will make it a powerful new weapon in the fight against school bus stop-arm violators. The compact, quick-to-install system attaches to the side of school buses and provides outstanding picture quality in bright, low-light and nighttime conditions between 98 feet and 164 feet (30 to 50 metres) with coverage across multiple highway lanes.

"This system is a game changer: It's going to ensure a safer environment for kids in and around school buses and provide peace of mind for operators, administrators, legislators and, most of all, parents," said Doug Dyment, president and chief executive officer of Gatekeeper. The SP25 is being unveiled this week at the National Association of Pupil Transportation (NAPT) conference in Kansas City, Mo. He added: "It's a powerful deterrent to drivers thinking about running the stop-arm sign and will provide the legal system with irrefutable evidence when prosecuting those who commit this unforgiveable crime.

"Keeping kids safe is at the very core of our business," said Mr. Dyment. "Yet, with more than an estimated 15 million stop-arm violations per year in the United States alone, we are reminded that kids are very much at risk. Sadly, we saw a horrific accident in Colquitt county, Georgia, last week when one child was killed and his brother seriously injured by a stop-arm violator. Frankly, it's senseless crimes like this that drive us to build better products."

He said, "While stop-arm technology may not prevent all deaths and injuries, it should reduce incidents by reminding violators that they will receive a serious fine if they don't stop and law enforcement will have video footage as part of its evidence program when prosecuting violators."

The SP25 dual-camera system builds on Gatekeeper's proven technology by offering a multilane viewing licence plate capture capability, a high-speed licence plate tag reader and cellular network compatibility ready for remote, auto downloading of stop-arm violations. As well, it features an integrated global positioning system with time, date and vehicle sensors that meet state regulations and laws. This means that authorities can issue tickets to violators putting real teeth in the legislation designed to keep kids and operators safe.

Each camera weighs just 1.1 pounds (500 grams) and measures 2.8 inches by 4.4 inches by 2.7 inches (70 millimetres by 113 millimetres by 68 millimetres) and has a base diameter of three inches by 3.5 inches (eight centimetres by nine centimetres). Units can operate in the harshest of weather and are rated from minus 40 F to 158 F (minus 40 C to 70 C).

The NAPT conference hosts more than 600 delegates from across North America who are focused on the latest in school bus transportation, including developments that provide a safe passage on and around the bus.
