Great Canadian Gaming Corp. has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of British Columbia seeking to prevent the government from releasing what it claims is confidential information about its business. According to the company, the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia previously released sensitive information in the form of a report about its River Rock casino. The government intends to release more information, Great Canadian says.
The request from Great Canadian comes about six weeks after the government released a widely publicized report that looked into money laundering activity at the River Rock casino. The report, prepared by MNP LLP, found that over $13-million in $20 bills was accepted by the casino in 2015. At the time of the report's release, Great Canadian denied that it did anything wrong and said that its employees "followed all procedures required of them by BCLC and we do not believe our company's actions would give cause to initiate any investigation."
