The Successful Investor, in its November, 2015, issue, says buy Fortis Inc., recently $38. The Investor said buy 19 times from January, 1999, to May, 2015, at prices ranging from $23 to $74 (the stock split 4 for 1 on Oct. 12, 2005). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the 19 buys, the $19,000 position would now be worth $45,448. Fortis owns electrical utilities across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. It also provides natural gas in British Columbia. The company has raised its quarterly dividend to 37.5 cents a share from 34 cents a share. The new annual rate of $1.50 a share is now a 3.9-per-cent yield. Fortis has increased its dividend every year for the past 43 years. The company plans to raise its payout by around 6 per cent each year through 2020. The stock continues to be a buy.
