The Financial Post reports in its Tuesday edition that a federal panel will review how Canada handles environmental assessments for major resources projects and provide suggestions on how to "modernize" the National Energy Board, which vets pipeline applications. The Post's Geoffrey Morgan writes that Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna announced Monday that she had appointed a four-member panel to write a report, due by the end of next year, highlighting how to update the country's environmental review processes. These include major resource projects overseen by the NEB. "Our belief that a clean environment and a strong economy go hand-in-hand is central to the health and well-being of Canadians. This is especially important as we work to get resources to market and develop major projects responsibly in the 21st century," Ms. McKenna said in a release. Montreal strategist and consultant Johanne Gelinas at Grant Thornton will chair the panel, which will also include former Teck Resources executive Doug Horswill, aboriginal lawyer Renee Pelletier, and environmental lawyer Rod Northey.
