The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, May 5, edition that the list of the world's top value creators is not replete with Canadian content, but the rankings include a few gems. The Globe's Tim Shufelt writes that the Boston Consulting Group's annual value-creators report ranks the world's corporate leaders based on total shareholder return over a five-year period. United States companies dominated the rankings. There were no Canadian stocks with the combination of size and returns sufficient to rank among the Top 10. The report's industry-specific rankings, however, give some representation to Corporate Canada. Eight Canadian stocks are included among the 300 top global value creators by industry. Enbridge and Franco-Nevada made the list in the oil and mining industries, while Stella-Jones topped the list of value creators in the forest-products sector with an average annual total shareholder return of 46 per cent. Dollarama and Alimentation Couche-Tard generated strong enough returns to earn Top 10 accolades in the global retail sector. Meanwhile, Linamar was among the top value creators in automotive components, and Canadian Pacific Railway made the transportation and logistics list.
