The Financial Post reports in its Friday, May 8, edition that O'Leary Funds boss Kevin O'Leary pans the NDP win in Alberta under Rachel Notley. The Post's Yadullah Hussain writes that Mr. O'Leary says the NDP win is a "disaster." The NDP aims to raise corporate taxes and set up a commission to review the royalty regime. Ms. Notley expects to make a decision on the commission's findings in the first year of her rule. Mr. O'Leary says: "You never, ever tinker with royalty rates when you are at the low. ... Why would you take a whole year to guarantee that no capital flows into the province -- that is beyond irresponsible. That is un-Canadian." Mr. O'Leary is unable to comprehend the NDP's decision to abandon flagship pipelines such as Enbridge's Northern Gateway and TransCanada's Keystone XL. Mr. O'Leary says he has been told Ms. Notley wants to "shut the province down." Mr. O'Leary says the NDP's focus on raising cost of capital is counter intuitive to job creation during a severe economic downturn. Canadian Natural Resources president Steve Laut shares Mr. O'Leary's concerns about the NDP's desire to raise taxes and royalties. "Clearly, this is not good for the industry."
