The Vancouver Sun reports in its Saturday edition the scandal surrounding Mike Duffy reached the oil patch last week following a media report that Enbridge had engaged in secret lobbying of the Prime Minister's Office through the now suspended Conservative senator. Postmedia's Stephen Ewart writes Enbridge called the allegations "completely false" and went on to portray Mr. Duffy as a self-important meddler. Mr. Duffy is on trial in Ottawa. He has pleaded not guilty to fraud, breach of trust and bribery charges over allegations that expense reports were falsified to avoid Senate oversight. "Senator Duffy made a number of unsolicited contacts to Enbridge representatives offering advice regarding Northern Gateway, as well as to recommend that Enbridge hire his colleague, Bill Rodgers. I interviewed him but elected not to retain Mr. Rodgers," D'Arcy Levesque, vice-president of communications at Enbridge, said in an e-mail to The Calgary Herald. "At no time did Enbridge solicit Senator Duffy's help to lobby the federal government. In the interest of clarity, we took the extra step to notify the Prime Minister's Office at the time that Senator Duffy does not represent Enbridge or our interests."
