FP says new pipelines put Enbridge in the black

2015-02-20 08:26 ET - In the News

The Financial Post reports in its Friday, Feb. 20, edition that construction of new oil pipelines linking Albertan crude with key United States refining markets helped Enbridge move into the black in the fourth quarter of 2014. The Post's Geoffrey Morgan writes that Enbridge said Thursday it posted net earnings of $88-million or 11 cents per share in the final three months of last year. That compared with a loss of $271-million or 33 cents in the same quarter the year before and a rebound from an $80-million loss in the third quarter of 2014. Revenue rose to almost $8.8-billion from $8.29-billion. The boost was partly the result of new income from Enbridge's call for line fill on two of its pipeline projects -- Flanagan South and the newly twinned Seaway crude pipeline. The completion of those two projects allowed large quantities of heavy crude oil from Alberta to flow to the U.S. Gulf Coast for the first time. Enbridge says improving market access for its customers has been a key focus over the past five years. Enbridge says it reached an important milestone in 2014. It says, "These two projects establish the first full-path, large-volume pipeline network from Western Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast."
