The Financial Post reports in its Saturday edition that Enbridge said Friday it would not be able to give a start date for its newly reversed Line 9 crude oil pipeline until a Canadian regulator decides whether to force it to install safety valves at major water crossings on the route. A Reuters dispatch to the Post reports that the company is seeking relief from a National Energy Board order to put the valves on either side of the crossings. Enbridge said it cannot say when the line, which would carry crude from Sarnia, Ont., to Montreal, could enter service until it gets a ruling from the board on that request. Enbridge spokesman Graham White says, "We can't speculate on [the timing of a restart] until we know the regulator's response." The 300,000-barrel-per-day pipeline initially had been expected to be in service in early November. Enbridge shares advanced 19 cents to finish Friday in Toronto at $52.56. Heward Investment Management manager Renato Anzovino was bullish on Enbridge in the Post on Dec. 18, 2013. The shares were then worth $43.95. The Post on Sept. 9, 2014, reported that Scotiabank analyst Matthew Akman rated Enbridge "outperform," with a $70 target. Enbridge shares were then going for $55.43.
