Van Sun says Enbridge, others get new pipeline lobbyist

The Vancouver Sun reports in its Thursday edition Jim Prentice has taken on the point position to get Alberta's oil to market. Postmedia's Stephen Ewart writes Mr. Prentice has reaffirmed the mantra of former premier Alison Redford that getting oil sands crude to new markets is the top priority. His new cabinet saw Frank Oberle shift to Energy from Aboriginal Relations and backbench MLA Kyle Fawcett move to Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, but it is evident Mr. Prentice will have his hands on the major energy files. None of this is a surprise. During the summer-long leadership campaign to replace Ms. Redford, Mr. Prentice repeatedly said he was the candidate to ensure a number of contentious pipelines -- Keystone XL, Trans Mountain, Energy East and, in particular, Northern Gateway -- overcome their current hurdles and are constructed. He had briefly worked with Enbridge to help resolve issues with first nations in British Columbia over Northern Gateway before entering the campaign. He has former Imperial Oil chief executive officer Tim Hearn to lead his transition cabinet. Ms. Redford also lobbied incessantly for pipelines and it remains to be seen if Mr. Prentice will be more effective.
