The Successful Investor, in its October, 2014, issue, says buy Canadian National Railway Company, recently $80. The Investor said buy 14 times from May, 2003, to January, 2014, at prices ranging from $45 to $96 (the stock split 1.5 for 1 on Feb. 19, 2004, and 2 for 1 on Feb. 20, 2006). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the 14 buys, the $14,000 position would now be worth $22,000. The railway is now 13 per cent owned by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Ottawa limits any single shareholder from owning more than 15 per cent, so Mr. Gates has little room to increase his interest. Still, his involvement in CN has helped draw investor attention to the company's strong long-term prospects. The stock remains a buy.
